HAZWOPER

(40, 24 or 8 Hour Refresher)

For over 20 years, ESC has provided some of the best classroom instruction for Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response or HAZWOPER training. Please contact us to request a proposal for a class. ESC only employs professionally trainers with extensive HAZWOPER experience. Students receive a certificate of completion and an official HAZWOPER Training wallet card for the specific course they complete.

HAZWOPER training is covered under OSHA standard 29 CFR Part 1910.120. Workers involved in an emergency response operation dealing with hazardous waste and workers who have to perform duties at a waste site where hazardous contamination are equally expected to be fully trained and protected.

Employees covered by the OSHA HAZWOPER standard are required to take the initial HAZWOPER training which consists of a 24 or 40 hour course. Depending on your job type and experience, you may be able to take the 24 hour course to meet your HAZWOPER training requirement.

Learning Objectives


  • The purpose of OSHA in regulating occupational safety
  • Use Site Characterization to establish problems that may exist in your workplace and measures that can be implemented to eliminate hazards
  • Identify hazardous materials in the workplace and the possible methods, symptoms and preventative measures of exposure
  • Encourage the use of Safety Data sheets (SDS) to identify and properly handle hazardous materials
  • Familiarize yourself with materials and compounds that present flammable, explosive, chemical or radiological hazards
  • Use of Personal Protective Equipment in limiting hazardous exposure
  • Establish an effective Site Control Program to limit the risk of exposure to only those working in the hazardous work zone
  • Procedures for treating workers in the event of hazardous exposure

HAZWOPER 40-hour Initial

This 40-hour classroom and hands on instruction for a hazardous materials worker or handler is designed to satisfy the requirements of 29 CFR 1910.120 for initial training of such individuals and helps employees avoid exposure to hazardous materials. Some of the topics covered include: Emergency Response Plan, Site Safety and Health Plan, HAZMAT Labeling, Respiratory Protection, Personal Protective Equipment, Medical Surveillance Programs, Monitoring Procedures and Equipment, Accidental Release Measures and Spill Cleanup Procedures, among others.


HAZWOPER 24-hour

This is 24-hours of classroom instruction for a hazardous materials worker or handler and is designed to satisfy the requirements of 29 CFR 1910.120 for initial training of such individuals and helps employees avoid exposure to hazardous materials. Some of the topics covered include: Emergency Response Plan, Site Safety and Health Plan, HAZMAT Labeling, Respiratory Protection, Personal Protective Equipment, Medical Surveillance Programs, Monitoring Procedures and Equipment, Accidental Release Measures and Spill Cleanup Procedures, among others.


HAZWOPER Training 1st Responder Awareness

Complies to OSHA 1910.120. This 8-hour course provides employees with the training necessary to respond to an incident at a First Responder Awareness level. All employees who may be the first to discover an incident involving the release of a hazardous substance will benefit from this program -- to learn to Recognize Presence of Hazardous Substances; Understand Correct Methods for Securing Area, Notify Appropriate Emergency Response Agencies.


HAZWOPER 8-hour Refresher

1 day refresher course for 24 and 40 hour HAZWOPER students. This course satisfies OSHA's HAZWOPER requirement for annual refresher and covers a review of such topics as Hazard Recognition, Emergency Response Plan, Site Safety and Health Plan, HAZMAT Labeling, Respiratory Protection, Personal Protective Equipment, Medical Surveillance Programs, Monitoring Procedures and Equipment, Accidental Release Measures and Spill Cleanup Procedures, among others.
